The harder you push, the more drained you feel. And the irony? The work that once felt exciting now feels heavy, like wading through mud.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many high achievers get stuck in a cycle of overwork, convinced that slowing down means losing ground. But what if that belief is what’s holding you back?
A simple, mindful technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) tapping can help you release the tension that keeps you locked in overdrive—so you can work with more energy, not just more effort.
How to Use EFT Tapping to Reset Stress
Notice when stress tightens its grip. Maybe you’re staring at your screen, overwhelmed by everything you should be doing. Maybe you keep pushing through fatigue, hoping one more hour will make a difference.
Instead of ignoring it, pause. Rate your stress from 0 to 10. Then, tap through the following points while repeating these phrases:
- Karate Chop (side of the hand): “Even though I feel exhausted and stuck in overwork, I accept myself anyway.”
- Eyebrow Point (inner edge of the eyebrow): “This stress feels never-ending.”
- Side of the Eye (next to the outer corner of your eye): “I’m afraid if I stop, I’ll fall behind.”
- Under the Eye (below your pupil): “I’ve been running on empty.”
- Under the Nose (above the upper lip): “Pushing harder isn’t working.”
- Chin (below the lower lip): “But slowing down feels risky.”
- Collarbone (below the hard knobs at the front of your collarbones): “Maybe I don’t have to run myself into the ground.”
- Under the Arm (about four inches below the armpit): “I allow myself to rest without guilt.”
- Top of the Head (crown area): “I choose to work with energy, not exhaustion.”
Breathe. Check your stress level again. If it’s lower, even by a little, you’re moving in the right direction.
Shift Your Momentum—One Small Action at a Time
After tapping, do one thing differently. Take a real break—without checking emails. Step away from your desk and reset, even if it’s just for two minutes. At the start of your day, choose three key tasks instead of piling on everything at once.
Each time you pause before burnout takes over, you break the cycle. Each time you tap, you remind your nervous system that rest is not a weakness.
Try it today. When the pressure builds, take five minutes to tap. Then, choose one small step that supports your energy instead of draining it.
Burnout thrives on overwork, but your best work comes from balance. EFT tapping can help you find it.
